Governor Chet Culver announced the US Department of Veteran Affairs has awarded the state of Iowa a grant totaling $2,248,320 to help expand the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

"This grant will help improve the quality of life of every resident of the Iowa Veterans' Home, and I want to thank our federal partners for their assistance," said Governor Culver. "Our veterans have earned the support of a grateful state and country, and I am committed to doing all I can to help them."

The grant, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009, will help cover 65 percent of the actual cost of construction, with the remainder paid for by the Iowa Veterans Home.

In addition to this grant, the home will receive more than $22 Million dollars in funds for the four-phase construction/renovation project through I-JOBS, the Culver-Judge infrastructure and job creation initiative, leveraging roughly $45 Million additional federal dollars. Taken together, all four phases of the Iowa Veterans Home reconstruction is a $110 Million dollar, multi-year project, and will provide Iowa's veterans with one of best Veterans Homes in the country.
